One question a day, chosen from what you have written before so it does not repeat. Answer it in under a minute, by voice or by keyboard.

Promises

The smallest action that fits what you just said.

Every reflection ends with one promise for tomorrow, sized for a tired Tuesday. It becomes a card. The next day you tap once: Kept it, Did a smaller version, or Released it. Nothing is punished.

There is no streak, so there is nothing to break. A promise kept badly is still a promise kept, and a promise let go is a fact about its size, not about you.

When you are about to let a promise go, Elja offers the half-size version first. "Walk ten minutes" becomes "put your shoes on and step outside." "Write the report" becomes "open the document and write the first line." You can still let it go. Most people keep the smaller one.

Reminders that know the promise

When you make a promise, Elja asks when to remind you. At that hour, one notification, and its whole text is your promise as a question. It cancels itself the moment you report back. One a day, never two, and every one of them is logged under Settings so you can see everything Elja has said to you.

Thirty days with a shape.

A mission is a named arc with a defined outcome: day-anchored questions on the days that matter, a pool for the days between, and promises sized for that month.

Seven days where Elja picks the promise for you each morning: send one message, put one thing back, walk to the end of the street. On Day 7 you read the six back and choose the one that felt most like you. That becomes your first promise in Keep One Promise.

Once you have seen your Proof, Elja gets quieter: the standing promise on Today with no day counter, one reflection whenever you like, a Mirror once a month. After fourteen kept days, one button appears for a second promise.

Life-moment missions

Thirty days written for a particular moment, not a generic goal. Each is written with a named author who has lived the thing; their name and a line about them sit at the top of the mission. Until an author has signed, the mission ships unsigned and says so.

The First Year Sober is not a recovery program and does not replace one. It never gives medical advice and never counts your days for you. It is a place to keep one small promise alongside the big one.

If you have kept notes before, in Day One, Apple Notes, plain text, or Markdown, you can bring them in with their original dates. They sit in your history as they are. Nothing is processed by AI unless you tap "Run my first Mirror on these," and even then only the last fourteen.

One presence, one voice. Mentor is the name for everything Elja says to you that is not your own words reflected back. It checks in with one short question on the days that historically go badly for you, and it resurfaces evidence instead of cheering: "Nine days ago you wrote that you didn't believe yourself. You've kept the promise six of the nine since." Once a week, a ten-minute voice conversation with a shape: what happened, what got in the way, the next promise. And Mission Architect: you name the real thing you want to keep, and Mentor writes you a thirty-day mission for it. No open-ended chat, no advice beyond one small step, and an off switch that stays off.
