Terms of service

Between you and: Elja App LLC, a Delaware limited liability company (“Elja,” “we,” “us”). Contact: contact@eljaapp.com.
These terms are written to be read. They govern the Elja apps for iOS, Android and web, the website eljaapp.com, and our emails (together, the “Service”). By creating an account or using the Service you agree to them and to our Privacy Policy, which explains what we do with your information.
Elja is for people 18 and older. By creating an account you confirm that you are at least 18. If you are not, please do not use Elja. We will delete accounts we learn belong to minors.
You need a working email address. Sign-in is by a link we email you; keep that email account secure, because anyone who can read it can open your Elja. One person per account. You are responsible for what happens under your account, and you should tell us at contact@eljaapp.com if you think someone else has used it.
Elja is a daily reflection practice: a question, a small promise, and a record of whether you kept it, with summaries, a Weekly Mirror and a Day 30 Proof written back to you from your own words.
Elja is not therapy, counseling, medical or mental-health care, coaching, or crisis support. Nothing Elja writes to you is professional advice, a diagnosis or a treatment plan, and you should not rely on it as one. If you are in crisis or thinking about harming yourself, contact local emergency services or a crisis line. The Service is not a substitute for a person.
Everything you write, say or record in Elja is yours. You give us only the permission we need to run the Service for you: to store your content, transcribe your recordings, generate your read-backs, Mirrors and Proofs, show it back to you, share exactly what you choose with a Witness or organization, and include it in your export. We do not sell your content, use it for advertising, or use it to train any AI model. This permission ends when you delete the content or your account, except for backups, which are purged within 30 days.
You are responsible for what you put in Elja. Do not upload anything you do not have the right to, and do not use Elja to harm, harass, impersonate or defraud anyone.
Read-backs, Mirrors, Proofs, reminders, check-ins and Elja Mentor messages are generated by software from your own entries. They can be wrong. They are meant to reflect, not to instruct. You can turn AI processing off in Settings at any time, and everything else keeps working.
Practice is free. It stays free. It includes an account, Keep One Promise, Start Anyway, one reflection a day by voice or text, the read-back, promise cards and reminders, your first Weekly Mirror, the daily line, the email course, and every privacy control. We never require a payment method to use the free tier.
Paid tiers add features described in the app and at eljaapp.com/pricing. Prices are shown in your local currency in the app before you buy.
Subscriptions (Practice Plus and Elja Studio) are bought through Apple’s App Store or Google Play, billed to the account you use there, and renew automatically at the end of each period (monthly or yearly) unless you cancel at least 24 hours before it ends. You cancel in your Apple or Google subscription settings, not in Elja; cancelling stops the next charge and you keep access until the period ends. Refunds are handled by Apple or Google under their rules; we will help you find the right place to ask.
Founding lifetime is a one-time purchase that gives Practice Plus for as long as Elja exists. It is not a subscription and does not renew. It is limited to the first 300 people and is personal to your account.
Elja for Teams is sold to organizations under a separate written agreement. Seats are Practice Plus; your organization never sees your entries.
Price changes. If we change a subscription price, Apple or Google will tell you in advance and you can cancel before it applies. We will not change the price of a Founding lifetime purchase after you have made it.
Free trials. We do not offer them. The free tier is the trial.
If you invite a Witness, that person can see whether you kept, revised or released your promise each day — dots, never words — until you revoke access, which you can do at any time. You are responsible for choosing someone you trust with that. If you join an organization’s Elja, your organization receives participation counts for groups of ten or more people and nothing about any individual. You can leave an organization at any time and keep your account and history.
A Time Capsule is a message to your future self that seals one hour after you record it and cannot be opened by anyone, including you and including us, until Day 30. You can delete it before then; you cannot watch it. It is never transcribed or processed by AI.
You can delete your account at any time in Settings; it takes effect immediately and is described in the Privacy Policy. We may suspend or end an account that breaks these terms, is used to harm others, or that we are required by law to close, and we will tell you why unless the law prevents it. If we ever shut Elja down, we will give you at least 60 days’ notice and a way to export everything first.
We will run Elja with care, keep it available as best we can, tell you honestly what it does, and protect your information as the Privacy Policy describes. Beyond that, the Service is provided “as is.” To the fullest extent the law allows, we disclaim warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement, and we are not liable for indirect, incidental, special or consequential damages, or for lost data, profits or opportunities, arising from your use of the Service. Our total liability to you for any claim is limited to the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim, or one hundred US dollars, whichever is greater. Some places do not allow these limits, in which case they apply only as far as the law permits.
If you got Elja from the App Store, Apple’s standard Licensed Application End User License Agreement also applies, these terms are between you and Elja App LLC (not Apple), Apple has no obligation to provide maintenance or support, and Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these terms and may enforce them. Any claim about the app itself, including product-liability, legal-compliance and intellectual-property claims, is our responsibility, not Apple’s. The equivalent applies to Google for Google Play.
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Delaware, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules. If we have a dispute, we will each try in good faith to resolve it by talking first — email contact@eljaapp.com. If that fails, the courts located in Delaware have exclusive jurisdiction, and each of us consents to it. Nothing here takes away rights you have as a consumer under the law of the place you live that cannot be waived by agreement.
If we change these terms in a way that matters, we will tell you in the app or by email at least 14 days before the change takes effect. Continuing to use Elja after that date means you accept the new terms. If you do not, delete your account before then and, if you have an active subscription, cancel it with Apple or Google.
These terms and the Privacy Policy are the whole agreement between you and us about the Service. If a court finds part of them unenforceable, the rest still applies. We may assign these terms in a merger or sale of Elja; you may not assign your account. Our failure to enforce something once does not mean we waive it later.
