The agreement between you and Elja, written to be read.

1. You must be an adult

Elja is for people 18 and older. By creating an account you confirm that you are at least 18. If you are not, please do not use Elja. We will delete accounts we learn belong to minors.

2. Your account

You need a working email address. Sign-in is by a link we email you; keep that email account secure, because anyone who can read it can open your Elja. One person per account. You are responsible for what happens under your account, and you should tell us at contact@eljaapp.com if you think someone else has used it.

3. What Elja is, and is not

Elja is a daily reflection practice: a question, a small promise, and a record of whether you kept it, with summaries, a Weekly Mirror and a Day 30 Proof written back to you from your own words.

Elja is not therapy, counseling, medical or mental-health care, coaching, or crisis support. Nothing Elja writes to you is professional advice, a diagnosis or a treatment plan, and you should not rely on it as one. If you are in crisis or thinking about harming yourself, contact local emergency services or a crisis line. The Service is not a substitute for a person.

4. Your words stay yours

Everything you write, say or record in Elja is yours. You give us only the permission we need to run the Service for you: to store your content, transcribe your recordings, generate your read-backs, Mirrors and Proofs, show it back to you, share exactly what you choose with a Witness or organization, and include it in your export. We do not sell your content, use it for advertising, or use it to train any AI model. This permission ends when you delete the content or your account, except for backups, which are purged within 30 days.

You are responsible for what you put in Elja. Do not upload anything you do not have the right to, and do not use Elja to harm, harass, impersonate or defraud anyone. Rooms is the one part of Elja where what you write is shown to other people, and it asks for one further permission and sets out its own rules — section 9.

5. What Elja writes back

Read-backs, Mirrors, Proofs, reminders, check-ins and Elja Mentor messages are generated by software from your own entries. They can be wrong. They are meant to reflect, not to instruct. You can turn AI processing off in Settings at any time, and everything else keeps working.

6. Free, Practice Plus and Elja Studio

Practice is free. It stays free. It includes an account, Keep One Promise, Start Anyway, one reflection a day by voice or text, the read-back, promise cards and reminders, your first Weekly Mirror, the daily line, the email course, and every privacy control. We never require a payment method to use the free tier.

Paid tiers add features described in the app and at eljaapp.com/pricing. Prices are shown in your local currency in the app before you buy.

Subscriptions (Practice Plus and Elja Studio) are sold in two places, and where you bought yours decides how it is billed. Bought in the iPhone or Android app, they are billed through Apple’s App Store or Google Play to the account you use there, and renew automatically at the end of each period (monthly or yearly) unless you cancel at least 24 hours before it ends. You cancel in your Apple or Google subscription settings, not in Elja; canceling stops the next charge and you keep access until the period ends, and refunds are handled by Apple or Google under their rules. Bought on the web at app.eljaapp.com, payment is taken by Stripe, our payment processor, and billed to the card or payment method you give them; we never see or store your full card number. Web subscriptions renew automatically too, and you cancel in Settings, Manage subscription, which opens the Stripe customer portal, or by emailing subscriptions@eljaapp.com. Canceling stops the next charge and you keep what you paid for until that period ends. If you cancel within 14 days of a first payment or a renewal and have not used a paid feature in that time, we refund it in full, no reason needed; outside that we look at what happened and answer within five working days, and where the law where you live gives you a stronger right to cancel or be refunded, that law wins. If a payment fails, Stripe retries over a short period and emails you; if it still fails the subscription ends and your account returns to Practice, which is free, with your entries, Missions and history untouched — nothing is deleted for non-payment. Where we are required to collect sales tax, VAT or GST, it is calculated at checkout from your billing country and itemized on your invoice. A subscription bought in one place is managed in that place.

Elja for Teams is sold to organizations under a separate written agreement. Seats are Practice Plus; your organization never sees your entries.

Price changes. If we change a subscription price we will tell you at least 30 days before it applies to you: by email for a subscription bought on the web, and through Apple or Google for one bought in their stores, which also ask you to approve the new price. You can cancel before it applies.

Free trials. We do not offer them. The free tier is the trial.

7. A Witness, Teams, and other sharing

If you invite a Witness, that person can see whether you kept, revised or released your promise each day — dots, never words — until you revoke access, which you can do at any time. You are responsible for choosing someone you trust with that. If you join an organization’s Elja, your organization receives participation counts for groups of ten or more people and nothing about any individual. You can leave an organization at any time and keep your account and history.

8. Time Capsule

A Time Capsule is a message to your future self. For one hour after you record it you can delete it; after that hour it is sealed until Day 30. Nothing in Elja will play it before then, to you or to anyone else — the date is enforced by our database, not by the app. Our engineers can reach the storage it lives in, as they can reach any production system, and never do so except to delete it at your request; that access is logged. It is never transcribed or processed by AI.

9. Rooms

Rooms are part of Elja Studio. They are small boards by topic where people answer one question a week. They are for adults only, they are never public — there is no share link, no crawler and no unauthenticated page — and the only thing anyone in a Room sees about you is the username you chose.

What you post is still yours. By posting you give us permission to show that post, under that username, to other members of Elja Studio, and to keep it as described in the Privacy Policy. That is the only extra permission Rooms asks for, and it ends where section 4 says the rest of it ends, with one exception you should know about before you write anything: when you delete your account, a Room post is not simply deleted. Your name and your words come out of it and a marker stays in their place, so that the replies other people wrote underneath still make sense. Section 5 of the Privacy Policy says exactly what is removed. If you want a post gone sooner, write to us.

Everything is read before it appears. Every post and every reply goes through automatic checks first, and some go to a person. A post can be published, held while somebody reads it, refused, or taken down later. We do not edit your words to make them sound different — a post either goes up as you wrote it or it does not go up.

What does not belong in a Room. Anything cruel, harassing, hateful or sexual; anything that promotes a product, a service, a coach or a program, including your own; contact details or anything that identifies you or somebody else off Elja — an email address, a phone number, an address, a full name, a social handle or a link; and anybody else’s private information. Rooms are for saying what happened to you, not for telling other people what to do: advice, and anything phrased as a diagnosis of another person, is held rather than published.

Reporting, and what we do about it. You can report any post or reply. Enough reports and it comes out of sight until somebody has looked at it. We never tell the person who was reported who reported them.

Nobody in a Room is your doctor or your therapist, and neither is Elja. Nothing anybody writes there is medical, psychological or legal advice, and section 3 applies to a Room exactly as it applies to everything else. If a post reads as somebody being in danger, it is not published — that person is shown resources and a way to reach a real one, and is never told they broke a rule.

We can end your access to Rooms — for the reasons in section 10, or for repeatedly posting things that do not belong there — without ending your account or taking away anything else you have paid for.

10. Ending things

You can delete your account at any time in Settings; it takes effect immediately and is described in the Privacy Policy. We may suspend or end an account that breaks these terms, is used to harm others, or that we are required by law to close, and we will tell you why unless the law prevents it. Where the problem is confined to Rooms we will normally end access to Rooms rather than to your account, because your own practice is not the thing that went wrong. If we ever shut Elja down, we will give you at least 60 days’ notice and a way to export everything first.

11. Our promises and their limits

We will run Elja with care, keep it available as best we can, tell you honestly what it does, and protect your information as the Privacy Policy describes. Beyond that, the Service is provided “as is.” To the fullest extent the law allows, we disclaim warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement, and we are not liable for indirect, incidental, special or consequential damages, or for lost data, profits or opportunities, arising from your use of the Service. Our total liability to you for any claim is limited to the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim, or one hundred US dollars, whichever is greater. Some places do not allow these limits, in which case they apply only as far as the law permits.

12. Apple and Google

If you got Elja from the App Store, Apple’s standard Licensed Application End User License Agreement also applies, these terms are between you and Elja App LLC (not Apple), Apple has no obligation to provide maintenance or support, and Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these terms and may enforce them. Any claim about the app itself, including product-liability, legal-compliance and intellectual-property claims, is our responsibility, not Apple’s. The equivalent applies to Google for Google Play.

13. Governing law and disputes

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Delaware, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules. If we have a dispute, we will each try in good faith to resolve it by talking first — email contact@eljaapp.com. If that fails, the courts located in Delaware have exclusive jurisdiction, and each of us consents to it. Nothing here takes away rights you have as a consumer under the law of the place you live that cannot be waived by agreement.

14. Changes to these terms

If we change these terms in a way that matters, we will tell you in the app or by email at least 14 days before the change takes effect. Continuing to use Elja after that date means you accept the new terms. If you do not, delete your account before then and cancel any active subscription where you bought it — in your Apple or Google settings, or in the Stripe portal for a subscription bought on the web.

15. Everything else

These terms and the Privacy Policy are the whole agreement between you and us about the Service. If a court finds part of them unenforceable, the rest still applies. We may assign these terms in a merger or sale of Elja; you may not assign your account. Our failure to enforce something once does not mean we waive it later.
